November 16-20, 2011 – Modern hard rockers unite!

Let’s start off by congratulating EYES OF TORMENTfor a hard-earned victory in the final night of our tenth annual Sweetwater Showdown.  In front of a packed house of nearly 300 people, they edged out Subdivisions and THIRD CANDLE to claim the 2011 title.  All three bands brought great energy and vibes, and the fans were intrigued throughout the show.  Thanks to everybody for your support of both Sweetwater and the local scene.

This Friday, join us as hard rock veterans Dead Horse Hollow and Floored return to tear it up, with a short stand-up set in between from national comdeian Tim Murray.  Should be an entertaining evening!  Saturday comes at you with three modern rock marvels. Progressive The Aeon Flow debuts their new rhythm section, Poynte brings their polished sound once again, and 2010 Sweetwater Showdown finalist ChloesHouse closes the night off right.

Come out to Mr. Smokey’s Karaoke Tuesday and Wednesday night for $1.50 domestic draft mugs all night long until the end of the year; just mention that you saw it online and it will be so.

Until next time.

October 10-16, 2011 – Rock hard Saturday or don’t rock at all, Friday karaoke

This Saturday night, we welcome the return of ChloesHouse, a finalist of last year’s Sweetwater Showdown and all-around kick-ass band. Joining the bill are the throwback hard-hitting thrills of Asphalt Valentine and Floored, so expect to get your core rocked.

Open Mic Thursdays have really blown up thanks to the hard work and diligence of our host/homey Taymin, who has had a booked-up sign-up sheet nearly every night (usually before he even shows up, btw!). It’s become a great night for musicians and music fans alike to scope out the diversity of north-metro-Atlanta’s local talent.

Thanks for everybody who came out to karaoke last week to be part of my “OTP” parody video; we have some amazing footage!  I’ll be taking a bit more over the next week (mostly crowd and group shots) and then hit the editing lab.  If you missed out, Mr. Smokey will be hosting a special Friday night show, and though I won’t be performing the song, I can still get some video of you to work into the final cut.  Hope to see some familiar faces, as well as new ones.  Until your next Sweetwater visit…

April 25-31, 2011 – Modern rock, ska, reggae, and more…

Hello Sweetwater patrons and local music fans!  We have a big weekend in store, with two shows featuring some of our top bands.  Friday night marks the return of Sweetwater Showdown IX finalist ChloesHouse.  Joining them are fellow high-energy modern rockers Something Once Sacred and Defying Silence.  Saturday night, we welcome back one of our favorite local acts, ska/reggae/punk-infused Gwinnett band State of Unrest.  Opening up is Hermits of Suburbia, fronted by the former lead singer of Cougar Bait, and talented Athens-based Burns Like Fire closes the night out.

Don’t forget to join us for karaoke madness every Tuesday and Wednesday night with Mr. Smokey’s Karaoke, as well as Two Man Banned’s weekly Open Mic Thursdays for a diverse array of local musicians jamming out.
